The Wheel Badge

is the Symbol of all RAF Apprentices.

This is the story of RAF Halton
The Number 1 School of Technical Training

Lord Trenchard founded the Apprentice scheme in 1920 originally from a site built by German prisoners of WW1.
The site wasn't quite ready to accept the first band of entrants ranging from the 1st to the 5th Entry, who were transferred to RAF Cranwell, on the other side of the Officer Cadet School, also created by Lord Trenchard until 1922
The first Halton Entry was the 6th in 1922.
The last Entry was the 155th who finally passed out in 1993
Between 1922 and 1993 some 40,000 boys aged between 15&17 1/2 passed through Halton from around the country and all around the World, affectionately known as
TRENCHARD'S BRATS
